Juggle Head

Zombie head dropped from a chute into an empty classroom. The players have to keep the head from touching the floor.

Competition version: Friendly fire is on stun for 1.5 seconds. Each person who tags the head gets one point. Try to collect as many points while stopping your opponents all the while keeping the head up in. Consecutive hits generate more points in the form of a pool.

Capture the Flag (with the HOT LAVA twist)

The floor is hot lava, touching the floor on the map will automatically teleport you back to spawn point. If you have the flag at the time, you teleport back. Throw in a few zombies and boobie traps for more fun.

Mecha in the Middle!!!

Each player will have a computer part the Robot NPC needs. It is armed with weapons which will stun the players. The idea is for the players to survive or keep away from the Robot NPC. As each player is eliminated, the robot will get a part back allowing it to "upgrade".

Competition version: Each player has a part and will generate points as a part is held. A player can attack another for his/her piece generating more points while the character robbed of their part will stop gaining points. Mecha can steal parts for upgrades. Game ends when mecha gets all the parts.

I'm not sure how the game will work, but I assume it will be staged similarly to other games in that there will be instances.
So I figured if there are going to be instances, we might as well post ideas for them.
If not, they're still ideas.
I'll drop a few I have in mind to get the thread started:

Excurmination:
On a routine supply run, the School Bus is unexpectedly attacked by the horde. It's up to you to make sure that the supplies and your squad make it back to school safely, or you'll be down in the truant records for a long time to come.
Setting: The parking lot to a Mall/The front of an abandoned gas station/Middle of a market street. Day or night.
Gameplay: Effectively a 'survival mode', you have to protect the bus from an onslaught of zombies while saving your own skin.

Cootie Tango:
A supposedly peaceful school dance has been infiltrated by succubi and incubi posing as chaperones. But their weapons of choice, 'wiles' and 'cologne', only work on smelly old people and your big sister. And no amount of second base, or any other offers of sports equipment, are going to get you to risk contracting the deadly C-Virus. It's time to whup ass.
Setting: A low-light gym with some smoke and maybe a disco ball. Will occasionally go completely dark.
Gameplay: A DJ that speaks nonsense narrates an old-school beatdown on the overdressed demons.

Screamage:
A friendly game of football is interrupted by the horde. Zombie quarterbacks, cheerleaders and mascots all moving in to take it for their own gruesome league. Fortunately, zombie slaying is a full contact sport and you're playing on home ground.
Setting: A football field. Daytime or nighttime.
Gameplay: It's a wide open area getting flooded by zombies. Extra points for scoring touchdowns and field goals with decapitated zombie heads.

I'm thinking you should give it a nice update and perhaps add more sub-pages

1. Character page
show what is going to be on the foundation release and what is to come

2. weapon page

3. enemies

4. music

etc.

It would be a higher selling feature if you make this information available to the general public as opposed to hidden deep inside 9 months of forum pages. Your game is gonna be released in about two months. I think besides development you will have to look into your PR for market appeal.

Just my two cents

Im sure some of you have played several other games of this genre and I just wanted some ideas or nit picks at other games that the developers can look for ideas when they are polishing.
What are those small things you take for granted when playing the game that just help you immerse yourself in the game?

Some things that I have enjoyed from other games:
- If your character gets hit then there is a slight reddening of the screen: It tends to jolt you if you are not paying attention or taken by suprise instead of your chracter just blinking red. I think this helps with the whole horror theme.

- A sprint button: Zombies be coming? Gotta keep running.

- A jump button: self- explaintory

- As mentioned in another thread: A friends' list

- Not crucial but I would not mind generic voices for characters for grunts and screams.

- A hit marker for any bleed affects on 'damage over time' attacks.

- Mini map

- Scroll wheel allows for change of weapon.

- If there is a snipe/zoom in function then it should should't sway too much and if it does then a hold breath button.

- Graphics customization/ optimization.

- Enemies should not be able to attack through a barricade/ if you LOS them then they change tactics.

I'm not asking for all of these to be implemented, but I just happen to appreciate some of these things. If they help prioritize or improve the game then we all win. What are some of the less obvious things you appreciate?

So I was randomly thinkings and I thought a class that somehow has the ability to use its hair as a weapon. ( I really only thought about this because I was doodling Midna last night >.>) I know of at least three characters from games or anime with this ability one being Midna (loz:tp), then Niche (Tegami Bachi) and the last is Millia Rage(Guilty gear). But it could be interesting to see.
The abilities could be something like say these.

Attacks
Slashing strike: a close-mid ranged attack in which the hair becomes thin and swordlike and elongates a shot distance.

Hammer slam: a close-mid range attack in which the hair becomes hammer like and is slammed down in front of you.

Piercing thrust: a close-mid range attack in which the hair becomes spearlike and shoots forward quickly piercing foes.

Specials
Barrier: can use the hair as a shield.(a small shield in front of you that may block some attacks) More protective if stationary(will like cover more like a wall in front of you)

Hair spears: (either of these two for an animation) the hair spears out in all directions impaling foes in a medium range. The hair spears into the ground then back out in a circle around you.

Hair grab: the shoots out grabbing a foe (either a hand or more tentacle like) and throw them or trip them depending on enemy size.(could possible target multiple enemies later on ?)

Weapons
Te weapon slot item could be some kind of hair accessory that would be visible most of the time if not all and the hair should still be visible and hang down even with hats on.

Random picture of Niche (tegami bachi)
I would personally like it something like that minus the gloves and maybe a year or two older looking.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CrsYJg-1M4g/SurEKgmJ8eI/AAAAAAAAABU/7Nz0YXeOGkE/S660/83784-teganime[1].png

As for the class name I can't come up with a good one =x
Just a totally random crazy fantasy esque idea.
Wouldn't it be awesome if they game had multiple storylines? Almost mimicking Left 4 Dead. Replayability is to the roof! Just release a new campaign every few patches or so. Also, since your using Steam to distribute the game, why not use Steam Trading? Make an in-game store (merchant) that uses some kind of currency you get in the game (NOT real money as in steam wallet, IN-GAME currency) to get items. Make tons of items, maybe even promo , pre-order, or giveaway/contest items. Now onto my next idea; the designated healer. I haven't seen any thing abut the healer, but if there has been, I hope I'm adding to the idea. The character could be the nurses helper, but the nurse could be a zombie and that's why they left. I also saw someone's idea for student council and clubs, and I completely agree that that should be implemented in the game. And that's my two cents.

It's rather irritating, and standard long hair that goes down further than the shoulder blades is not a rare thing in this day and age to see.

I know it may seem like a bit of an odd point to bring up, but it's something that has bugged me for a long time in games, as it is a style choice that is not represented properly.

I'm fairly certain I'm not the only person who had, and still has, long hair.

Hello.

I have an idea for a possible mission : after a short funny cutscene (I hope it is), the player would have to help a NPC.

This idea is related to another idea I had (about meeting other kids in the game) : http://zombieplaygroundgame.com/forum/discussion/105/gameplay-idea-helping-other-kids-in-the-game

This kind of scene is nor really original since it has been seen in several movies (maybe games too) but I think it could be funny to see it in the game.

The cutscene could show another kid currently chasing a zombie in a corridor.
While they go away (the player wouldn't be able to see them anymore during a short moment), but the player could hear some sounds...
From the minute I heard about this project I was excited. Not because it's another zombie game but because it's about the imagination of these kids and how they are immersed into the familiar and exciting zombie apocalypse. I thought of an idea that could help us, the players, too feel involved in the imagination of our young avatars. One of the first things I asked myself is "How do kids act when they play? How did I act when I was young and playing?". There is a simple answer; Kids hate to lose especially if they are playing the hero. When they lose, they tend to complain about it. So, what if the characters and environment changed as a result of your characters excitement or boredom?

In my idea it would work according to the players health. If the player gets too low in health the environment and zombies begin to get real. In other words, they start to see the school as it really looks without blood splatters or other apocalyptic features, and the zombies would look like normal kids still playing as imaginary zombies. The player's character would start getting fussy and muttering each time they attack or are hit until they are no longer bored or lose all health. They would also see themselves look more ordinary, for example, if they appeared to be a fierce knight with a laser gun they would suddenly look like a kid with a football helmet and squirt gun.

If the player is completely full in health then the world would transform into an even more terrifying place. The building looks ripped to bits, some places get darker, more blood, zombies' eyes glow bright red. Even the player's character would change into a more heroic looking avatar. Their fire torch (normally a baseball bat with streamers taped to it) would appear as a flaming mace that blazes brightly each time it's swung. You get the point.

I believe something like this would get players even more interested in not just gameplay but also style and atmosphere. It would be fun to see how a boss looks normal, evil and super evil. It would also remind us that these are just kids trapped in their imaginations, which is what the game is all about. What do you think? Please give feedback or even make adjustments to my idea if you can think of it working another way!

BONUS IDEA!
"Time out!", "Time In!" pausing:

Anytime the player hits pause to bring up the menu, their character's voice will shout "Time out!". When they resume gameplay they will shout "Time in!". If this game is played through online multiplayer then obviously the game would resume regardless of the player pressing pause (Start or Esc buttons). Just a fun thought.

Hello.

We don't know much yet about the story of each "level" (nor about the detailed gameplay) but I think the game shouldn't only be restricted to a kid (the player) versus many zombies.

I mean, it would be cool, if the player randomly met other kids in the school during his adventure. These kids would try or to escape zombies or try to kill them too. Maybe these kids could be NPC, maybe other characters from the Character Selection screen.

Randomly meeting them in the game would allow the player to have various gameplay types :

- in a level you could have to rescure a group of frightened kids and lead them to a safe place

- you could be helped by another kid (a NPC) to fight big enemies (like in the game Another World : there was a big monster who helped you from time to time)

- this would add "life" to the game (after all the story is in a school... If the game is only about killing zombies from the start to the end, again and again, without alternative missions, it could be borring)

Of course, most of the time, the player would be alone against zombies.

This would cause a lot of noise and attract all the zombies in the nearby area.
- A hazard could be anything that would hinder the player's progress. The stench of a gym locker room could cause the player to slow down and cover their nose. This would make them more vulnerable to an ambush.
- A bonus could be anything from a chain reaction to a simple shortcut. Let's say you need to get downstairs fast, but a cluster of baddies is blocking your way. You could hop on the handrail and slide right past them if you wanted to save ammo and time.

Don't forget that we can also incorporate items into this as well. A player could equip a mask of some sort to counter the locker room hazard. Projectiles could be used to set off traps from a distance to cause a distraction. So on and so forth.

C'mon guys, whatcha got?

[EDIT *5/26*]

[Classrooms]
-Dusty Chalkboard Erasers (Trap)
-Flipped Desks (Bonus)
-Stacked Chairs/Desks (Trap)

[Hallways]
-Lockers (Bonus)
-Drinking Fountains (Hazard/Bonus)
-Vents (Bonus)
-Closets (Bonus)
-Restrooms (Hazard/Bonus)

[Gym]
-Locker Room (Hazard)
-Pile of Balls (Hazard/Trap)

[Library]
-Squeaky Floor (Hazard)
-Loose Books (Trap/Hazard)
-Unstable Shelves (Trap)

[Boiler Room]
-Pipes (Hazard)
-Valves (Trap)
-Water Heaters (Trap)
-Generators (Trap)

[Playground]
-Hopscotch (Trap)
-Swings (Trap)
-Jungle Gym (Bonus)
-Sandbox (Hazard)

[Cafeteria]
-Trays (Bonus)
-Spills (Hazard)

So, I hate doing these things, because they demonstrate how little of a life I have and the odds any of my ideas would actually be picked up and used are pretty negligible, but still, I'm gonna go with this one. This particular one is particularly pathetic because it's addressing a lot of stuff you've probably already got meshed out anyway.

So, what if classes were based on comics? You could make your character, customize the hair, the body type, etc. Then, you get a set of comics. You could have a ninja themed comic for a ninja class, for example, and maybe like a fairy wonderland one for a prince/princess, a scout handbook for a boy/girlscout, a manga for some kind of Battle Monster Master type class, a superhero comic for a... superhero kind of class. You pick a comic, it opens up and it would have an action panel setup on one page that would illustrate a move, accompanied by a description of the move on the opposite page. Getting more volumes in a series would essentially level up that class, giving you access to more moves, altering existing moves or granting passive advantages. (A ranged attack might have a limited edition foil cover version that makes it shoot an extra projectile, for example.) Some basic class comics would be available to buy outright, while more esoteric classes or special editions of existing class comics might be unlocked by meeting certain objectives. (Getting a lot of kills with ranged attacks might unlock a special sniper edition of a ranged class comic, for example.)

For customization, trading cards. You could have cards that, for example, make an attack cause you to regain some health, or make an attack do additional damage. You buy a pack themed around something, be it offensive skills or support, and you get a random assortment of cards. You stick the skill boosting card in the page with the desired skill like a bookmark, and it enhances that skill. Other cards could include diagrams to make improvised items or weapons, or advertisements for new comics or card packs, which would open them up in the shop. Some cards might be part of a set, and obtaining all of them unlocks something special. Redundant cards could be traded to NPCs for random items, or to build up points with them to unlock other things. For example, trading enough redundant cards to a collector might cause him to give you a special edition of something after a while.

To go even further for no good reason, let characters equip whatever comics they want, up to a certain amount, four for example. This would let players create their own load out, further customizing their characters to fit their wishes. This also lets you spread out role specific abilities among multiple classes, and lets the player decide if they want to focus on the role or if they want to diversify their options. You could take a taunt and damage mitigation from a tank class and combine it with a point blank AoE attack from another class. You could combine sniper skills with support to become a more well rounded back row character, or combine multiple support skills to become a stronger party enhancer. (One of the fun balancing issues this addresses is pet users, if you wanted to make something of a pokemon/digimon/card captor parody character. As long as the pet ability is on par with a normal ability, you're not really unbalancing anything by including it. Further, you could make the pet a trading card, and using it on the skill gives you a pet that automatically uses the skill for you instead of you using the skill. You could use this to give yourself a pocket healer or to have a pet watch your back with attack skills.) Pick one comic to be the "Primary" comic to decide what the character can equip, or let the character equip anything from any of the comics. This would let a support character equip a tank comic ability to help them wear stronger armor, for example, or allow normally melee characters to equip ranged weapons. Characters could level up, allowing them to equip more comics. Comics could have bonuses for using multiples of the same class, with a tanking class raising health for using multiples or a DPS class raising damage.

God, I need a life.
